What event volunteers do

• Setup: Unload vehicles, set up table(s), organize books and materials on table, etc.
• Tabling: Talk to people about book bans, challenges, the giveaway books, help them pick out a book
• Teardown: Pack up any remaining books, supplies, take down tables, load vehicles

Volunteer expectations

• Please show up for your shift(s).
• Please notify the event’s volunteer contact person as soon as possible if you are unable to make your shift.
• Let us know if you need any accommodations for your volunteer shift.  We want you to be involved and have fun so we will do everything we can to make sure you can help!
• Keep your interactions polite.  We very rarely have any rude guests in attendance but it’s always best to have a plan.  A Board Member will be happy to come help diffuse the situation.
• Brush up on recent news regarding book bans and challenges.  A lot of people know nothing about the current book banning efforts so being able to tell someone that book challenges are at an all-time high, that books are being banned in their community, that the books are often by or about marginalized populations is very helpful.
• Review the event’s books beforehand.  We’ll let you know what they are. You don’t need to read them all (we haven’t), but if you see one that excites you it’s a good reason to read it before the event!  We will provide you with a summary of each book and why and where it was banned at the event (you’ll get asked that a lot).
