June is always a very busy month for us. With at least three Prides, plus Juneteenth thrown in for fun, we’re holding Banned Book Giveaways every weekend—sometimes two! But we wouldn’t trade it for anything, and the joy we feel in sharing diverse stories with fellow Iowans carries us through the year.
But friends, I’ll share a secret with you: Books have gotten more expensive since we started in 2022. Shocking, I know. The books we used to be able to find for three dollars and change now cost us over five dollars each. And the books we need most—the ones that help people feel seen—are often even more expensive.
Last June, we gave away more than 2,500 banned and challenged books. 2,500 books x $5 = well, it adds up quickly!
Can you donate today to help us save lives?
Saying that we’re doing life-saving work feels a little dramatic—yet, we know it is true. And for every personal story you can find on the internet about the life-changing magic of books, for every study done on the importance of representation in literature, we’ve got personal testimonies from our joyful readers who, with our help, found themselves in the pages of a book.
Our work has always been a group effort. It takes all of us—Annie’s Foundation, volunteers, donors, and readers—to fight back against book bans. Your support means the world.
Help us raise $5,000 for our June Giveaways!
